AITAH for not paying child support??
I 18M am a college student. I met my ex 19F in highschool and we dated for two years. She broke up with me right before i left for college because she said can’t handle long distance.
I was extremely upset and hurt. About three months after our breakup my ex texted me and asked to meet. We met and she told me she is pregnant. I was raised by a single mother and she can barely afford to support herself and my brother, I have to pay for my own college.
My ex told me she wants to keep the baby as she doesn’t support abortion. I begged her to get an abortion or at least put the baby up for adoption. We had a heated argument where she said she is keeping the baby and wants to never hear from me again.
When our daughter was born my ex contacted me again, asking for financial support. When i said i can’t afford to help her, and that we had previously agreed i would not help out her or the child, even though it pained me greatly to know i would have nothing to do with my child, she claimed she would sue me and that it is my responsibility, not hers to financially support our baby.
I still haven’t met my daughter, and she’s a few months old now. The thought of never being able to meet her haunts me every day, but i really can’t afford to support her.
My ex wants to take me to court to settle child support.
